FORESTAL SPECIES

10294237_10154090435530072_1952105695367

The natural forests in primary state, little or not intervened in their timber species, still cover a large area of the country. They are one of the most valuable resources both for their biomass content and for their renewable character, provided they are rationally used with sustained yield.

Bolivia is one of the Latin American countries with the greatest biological diversity. Still, most of its ecosystems are intact and only around seven percent of its rain forests have been destroyed (3). The greatest cause of destruction is attributed to the activities of settlers and mechanized agriculture in areas previously exploited by the logging industry where there was no adequate management plan. A forest should not only consider the total hectares with tree cover, but also its composition, conservation status and existing management. A fragmented or overexploited forest does not function in the same way as a source of marketable species or as a refuge for wildlife.

SOLID WOOD  DOORS

Solid wood doors have long been considered the premium—and only—choice for homes. But as times have changed, innovations have come along that place other doors—hollow-core and solid-core—on an equal playing field with solid wood doors.

FOREST RESOURCES

The Forests in Bolivia
Natural forests:
The forests of the lowlands of Santa Cruz, Beni, La Paz and Pando cover approximately 76% of the forest area of Bolivia, 18% is in Chuquisaca and Tarija and the remaining 6% in the valleys near Cochabamba.

One of the characteristics of Bolivia is to be a country with a high forest potential, since 48% of its total area is covered by six different types of forests. According to the studies and inventories that are still incomplete in the country, around 14000 species of native plants with seeds have been registered so far (not including ferns, mosses, algae), but it is estimated that it has more than 20,000 species.

According to the Bolivian Forest Map prepared by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Environment in 1995 with the support of Bolfor, in Bolivia there are the following regions:

Region

SLABS

We salvage local trees destined for the landfill, mill them into slabs and lumber, and dry them in custom-made solar kilns.
We then complete the drying process in a conventional kiln to heat treat them, which sets the pitch and sterilizes for bugs and fungus. Only then do we begin to construct breathtaking slab tables and furniture that allows the soul of the tree to live on. Having the ability to take raw timber and turn it into a one-of-a-kind piece allows us the freedom to be a one stop shop. Each piece is as unique as a fingerprint. Whether it’s a legacy or heritage tree or a simple street tree, we find deep satisfaction in the metamorphosis of changing the mortality of what would ordinarily be discarded or burned. With a “no waste” attitude, we donate our wood shavings and sawdust to those who practice permaculture.
